Eye Treatments

90% of social contact interactions involve looking at the triangular area bordered by the eyes and mouth. Your eyes are an incredibly dynamic part of your appearance and communication, as well as poetically referred to as the "windows to your soul".

Aging gracefully does not equate with letting yourself fall apart. Do you do that with your teeth and not care about your appearance? Is it safe to drive if you have overhanging skin that is interfering with your vision? Do you really need to feel old because you have wrinkles around your eyes, when you could do some touch ups to look and feel young again? So, what are your options? Here are some samplings of the smorgasbord of eye treatments we have available at Pulsar Health...

Skin strengthening - the skin of the upper eyelid is the thinnest skin in the body. Good skin care and prevention of damage using sunblocks and sunglasses are the foundation of skin support in this delicate area, reducing the need for interventions in the long run. We have a variety of eye creams with different targets such as color, hydration or skin turnover to reduce fine lines (see the website sections on "Smooth Skin & Happy Hair Days" if you want more details). Image MD eye masks are great at-home treatments to use before an event if you get puffy eyes - our makeup artist Janneth swears by them! For a luxurious eye makeover, try Hydrafacial's Eye Perk treatment in the spa, where we gently but thoroughly exfoliate the eye area, and then rejuvenate it with hydrating and regenerative factors. Peels such as the Glytone Lip & Eye peel can be used for a more intense treatment.

Enhance the framing of the eye - eyebrow / eyelash tinting and shaping can be as striking for your face as a hair style that hits the mark. They allow your eyes to be framed beautifully. Stem cell eyelash growth and eyebrow growth treatments from AnteAGE can be shown off with Jane Iredale mineral make up that is skin care in disguise. Conditioning the eyelashes and using tubing mascaras can prevent damage as well as enhance beauty. For die-hard unibrows, we do have laser hair reduction!

Dark circles - if eye creams aren't enough, we suggest you try PRP (platelet rich plasma) to help the undereye area improve in skin thickness and quality. It does take a few treatments of injections or PRP microneedling to strengthen and rejuvenate this area, but it is currently the best long-term help for correcting dark circles where skin has thinned over time or is naturally darker.

Fine lines - for lighter skin tones, the carbon dioxide (CO2) Deka laser is a quick easy treatment to help reduce lines, although you will have swelling for several days. All skin tones can be helped by microneedling with stem cells / PRP - either traditional microneedling or for even more effective results, radiofrequency microneedling (RF-MN) with the Virtue SMART machine. Adding dermal exosomes to your treatment is helpful in taking it to the next level and tends to calm down swelling faster in our experience. Be careful to not overdo neuromodulators like botox or dysport in the crows feet area as this can worsen sagging of the undereye area and lines from this.

Excess eyelid skin - For mild excess skin, CO2 laser / Virtue RF-MN of the upper eyelid area may be enough to correct the problem. At Pulsar Health, we don't offer the plasma pen as we didn't find it effective enough, and because it is so straightforward for us to properly get rid of excess skin with a quick awake eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Not all surgeons deliver high quality results. Dr. Gill is specialized in craniofacial surgery and does aesthetic as well as reconstructive eyelid surgeries. Leaving the correct amount of skin and placing the incisions exactly in the appropriate fold is important. Looseness of the skin can reoccur so you may need this procedure more than once over your lifetime, but skin strengthening as well as other non-invasive treatments can help avoid recurrence. We do recommend having an eye exam before any eyelid surgeries. Pulsar Health pricing for cosmetic surgeries is great value for money, and sometimes insurance will cover eyelid surgery if it is causing a functional impairment.

Excess tissue in the eyelid area - Sometimes eyelid swelling is due to collapsed fat or glandular tissue, or there may be a groove or ballooning in the lower eyelid area. Also, the upper eyelid can fall in a condition known as ptosis where the muscles are not working correctly. These require more complex repair. Lower eyelid surgery may require general anesthesia, especially if we are tightening the lid itself horizontally in a canthopexy / canthoplasty or repositioning the fat. However simply removing some excess skin of the lower eyelid can be done awake.
